World Bank: lift your nuclear ban!

For decades the World Bank has refused to finance nuclear power projects, denying energy-starved African countries the possibility of bountiful clean power.

But its president, Ajay Banga, has gone pro-nuclear – and now he’s trying to get the ban lifted. In a few weeks the bank’s board will decide whether or not to let him.

This is a huge chance for countries across the Global South to win energy independence and a green future. But we need to move fast – anti-nuclear forces have blocked efforts like this before and they'll be lobbying hard to do so again.

Every month that passes condemns millions in Africa to cooking with wood or charcoal, and to life with no lights, no refrigeration, and countless other hardships. To give everyone the life they deserve, we need both renewables and nuclear – and that means access to World Bank loans.
