The German nuclear phase out has been a disaster for Germany seeing the country failing to achieve their climate goals, severely impacting industry, and causing unnecessary and socially unjust high energy costs for consumers.
Immediately prior to the shutdown in April 2023, Nobel Laureates and climate scientists signed an open letter to the German government, urging them to retain their nuclear reactors. They stated, "We call on you to use the remaining German nuclear power plants in order to alleviate the energy crisis and help achieve Germany’s climate targets."
It's now been 18 months since the shutdown, during which the world has experienced 13 months of record-breaking heat. Climate experts warn that Germany is on track to fail its climate goals, while high electricity prices continue to pressure households and businesses.
Sign our petition calling on the German government to restart shutdown nuclear power plants where possible and to allow the construction of new reactors.
